Background
A brief history
Winderlakes was developed between 1979 and 1988 in the northern portion of Dr. Phillips off Conroy-Windermere Road. The neighborhood was planned around a chain of five interior lakes, providing resident fishing access and water views for a significant percentage of homesites. The community was designed as a non-gated alternative with emphasis on water amenities and tree preservation. Development filled steadily through the 1980s and 1990s, establishing Winderlakes as one of the oldest residential communities in the Dr. Phillips area.
The feel
What it's like to live here
Winderlakes feels like a quiet lake-community village. Five bodies of water interspersed throughout provide fishing and water-view amenities for many residents. Homes are predominantly 1980s architecture — contemporary, Florida ranch, Cape Cod, and Key West styles — typically 2,100–3,800 square feet with 3–4 bedrooms. Sidewalks under tall shade trees define the street experience. Many properties offer water views or access to fishing docks. The community is non-gated but has distinctive identity tied to the lakes and mature tree canopy.
