Plantation at Leesburg

Plantation at Leesburg was developed by Pringle Development starting in 1987, making it one of the earliest large-scale active adult communities built in Lake County. Construction continued in phases over two decades, with the final homes completed around 2008 — at which point the community became fully built out at 2,820 homes across 1,760 acres. The project was conceived as a self-contained resort-style retirement destination, and the two championship 18-hole golf courses (Otter Creek and Cranes Roost) were central to the community's identity from the outset.

In 2008, when Pringle Development completed its buildout, the community transitioned to resident control under a self-managed homeowner association governed by a five-member elected board of directors. This transition gave residents direct control over amenity programming, HOA fee setting, and long-term capital planning — an arrangement that has kept monthly dues relatively stable compared to communities with third-party management companies.

Over its nearly four decades, Plantation at Leesburg grew into one of the most recognized 55+ communities along the US-27 corridor, attracting retirees and snowbirds primarily from the Midwest and Northeast who were drawn to the combination of golf-centric lifestyle, warm climate, and price points well below comparable communities on Florida's coasts or in the Orlando metro.
