Scores are relative safety ratings based on OCSO, SCSO, OPD, and independent crime index data (2023–2024). All scores reflect neighborhood-level patterns, not city-wide averages. Jurisdiction matters: Orange County SO, Orlando PD, and Seminole County SO have different reporting methodologies.

How to read Orlando crime data

The data is real — but context matters.

The most common mistake buyers make with Orlando crime data is conflating the City of Orlando (a 110 sq-mile municipality) with the suburbs where most buyers actually shop. When a national crime aggregator ranks "Orlando" poorly, it's measuring a jurisdiction that includes downtown, parts of the tourism corridor, and some historically challenged neighborhoods — none of which are the residential markets where Dr. Phillips, Lake Nona, or Baldwin Park are located.

Jurisdiction matters. Orange County Sheriff's Office covers unincorporated Orange County (including Dr. Phillips, Lake Nona, and Horizon West). Orlando PD covers incorporated Orlando (which includes Baldwin Park, College Park, and Thornton Park). Seminole County SO covers Oviedo, Longwood, and unincorporated Seminole. These are different agencies with different resources and different reporting methodologies — you cannot compare them by applying a single city-level metric.

Seminole County consistently ranks in Florida's top 5 safest large counties, which is one reason Oviedo and the Lake Mary corridor attract families who prioritize safety alongside schools. The scores here reflect that geographic reality.
