Background

A brief history

Glen Abbey Golf Club opened in 1974, designed by Dominic Palombo, and became the centerpiece of an expanding residential community in DeBary. The championship course, with its tree-lined fairways, crepe myrtles, oleanders, and native oaks and pines, anchored the development of nearby subdivisions that would eventually grow to approximately 800 homes by the 21st century. The community continued to evolve through the 1980s and beyond, with recent phases like Highbanks Townhomes representing the latest residential development in the area. Glen Abbey has remained a quieter, golf-oriented alternative to more densely developed Central Florida communities, maintaining its country club character throughout its growth.

The feel

What it's like to live here

Glen Abbey is a premiere golf community offering a relaxed, suburban lifestyle centered around a championship 18-hole course. Long winding streets, cul-de-sacs, and narrow sidewalks shaded by mature native trees create a peaceful, established neighborhood feel. Homes sit on spacious lots ranging from 0.25 to 1 acre, providing privacy and room for outdoor entertaining. The architecture is predominantly Spanish Revival and traditional style with stucco exteriors, rounded archways, and in-ground pools — reflecting the refined, upscale aesthetic of a country club setting.

The community appeals to golf enthusiasts, retirees, and families seeking a quieter setting within striking distance of Orlando. Some subdivisions are gated; others sit directly on the golf course with unobstructed views. Common areas include a clubhouse, swimming pool, and sports facilities centered on the course. The overall vibe is country-club-living without the high-rise urban density found in downtown Orlando or Winter Park.

Market Commentary

What the market is doing

Glen Abbey is one of my favorite communities to sell in Volusia County. The median home price sits around $516,250, with most active inventory between $350,000 and $600,000. Price per square foot averages $151, which is reasonable for a mature, well-maintained golf community. What surprises many sellers is how quickly well-priced homes move here. A properly staged Spanish Revival home listed at or just under $500,000 typically generates multiple offers within two weeks. The buyer pool is consistent: retirees, golf enthusiasts, and families who want privacy without feeling isolated from Orlando. My best advice is price aggressively at entry — the market rewards preparation and competitive pricing.
