The 45-to-55-minute drive to Orlando rules it out for daily downtown work, but for the historic-home enthusiasts, antique collectors, artists, and remote workers I represent, that's precisely the point. What you're buying is authentic 1880s-1920s Victorian streetscape, not a recreated theme, anchored by a walkable downtown on the National Register with more than a hundred antique shops and galleries and no chains in the historic core.

Lake Dora opens onto the Harris Chain, and Mount Dora's elevated, hilly setting means genuine water views rather than the implied kind. The festival calendar, from the nationally ranked Arts Festival to a craft fair drawing a quarter-million visitors, defines the town's rhythm and its weekend-tourism character. Where I set expectations: the best returns here come from hands-on restoration, these historic homes reward owners who know maintenance, and Lake County schools are solid without matching Seminole's top tier.
