Step 2
Set Up Your Utilities
Call ahead of your move-in date so the power and water are on when you arrive. Electric and water depend on your exact address — see the note under each.
Electric
Duke and FPL split the county, and Deltona and DeBary are divided between them by address. Only New Smyrna Beach runs its own electric. Confirm by address.
Duke Energy Florida
Serves: DeLand, Orange City, Lake Helen, most of DeBary, and part of Deltona.
Florida Power & Light (FPL)
Serves: Edgewater, Osteen, the majority of Deltona, and part of DeBary.
New Smyrna Beach Utilities (UCNSB)
Serves: New Smyrna Beach (municipal electric and water).
Water & Sewer
Inside a city, use the city. DeBary's water is run by Volusia County. Many rural parcels are on well & septic.
Volusia County Water Resources & Utilities
Serves: Unincorporated Volusia County and the City of DeBary.
City of Edgewater Utility Customer Service
Serves: City of Edgewater.
Natural Gas
Florida Public Utilities is the natural-gas provider for west Volusia and the New Smyrna Beach area. Many homes are all-electric.
Florida Public Utilities (FPUC)
Serves: Deltona, DeBary, DeLand, Orange City, Lake Helen, New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater, and unincorporated Volusia.
Trash & Recycling
Inside a city, trash is handled by the city; in unincorporated areas, by the county.
Volusia County Solid Waste & Recycling
Serves: Curbside collection in unincorporated Volusia County.
Internet & TV
Availability varies block to block — check your address on each provider's site.
Spectrum (Charter)
Serves: Cable internet and TV across most of the county.
Not sure who serves your exact address?
Electric, water, and trash can change street by street. The fastest ways to confirm: check the seller's most recent utility bill, ask your closing agent or title company, or call the city utility office for the city your home is in. If your home is in an unincorporated area, it's handled by the county. Your MaxLife agent is happy to help you pin this down before closing.
