Step 2
Set Up Your Utilities
Call ahead of your move-in date so the power and water are on when you arrive. Electric and water depend on your exact address — see the note under each.
Electric
FPL is the electric utility countywide — it bought the City of Vero Beach's electric system in 2018, so there's no longer a city electric utility.
Florida Power & Light (FPL)
Serves: Countywide, including the former City of Vero Beach electric territory.
Water & Sewer
Inside Vero Beach the city kept water/sewer; elsewhere it's the county.
Indian River County Utility Services
Serves: Unincorporated county and the Sebastian area.
Natural Gas
Gas mains follow developed corridors; many homes are propane or all-electric.
Florida Public Utilities (FPU)
Serves: Parts of the Vero Beach area — verify availability by address.
Trash & Recycling
The county runs a universal curbside program; inside Vero Beach the city collects garbage.
Indian River County Solid Waste District
Serves: Countywide curbside (trash, recycling, yard, bulk).
City of Vero Beach Solid Waste
Serves: City-run garbage pickup inside Vero Beach.
Internet & TV
Xfinity holds the cable franchise here — Spectrum does not serve Indian River County.
Xfinity (Comcast)
Serves: Dominant cable internet/TV across most of the county.
AT&T Fiber
Serves: DSL/fiber — AT&T Fiber in parts of the city; check by address.
Not sure who serves your exact address?
Electric, water, and trash can change street by street. The fastest ways to confirm: check the seller's most recent utility bill, ask your closing agent or title company, or call the city utility office for the city your home is in. If your home is in an unincorporated area, it's handled by the county. Your MaxLife agent is happy to help you pin this down before closing.
