Rumor has it that Mrs. Willingham was quite eclectic and demanded something that the Sunshine City had never seen before. So in August of 1970, Al Willingham accepted his wife’s challenge and began his journey. Mr. Willingham was not just a normal husband, he was an architect, and he just so happened to work for the architectural firm that was in the early conceptual stages of designing one of the most iconic pier structures in the entire world. Maybe his wife knew something of the secret St Petersburg Pier design, or maybe it is just that her timing was impeccable, as the creative juices were surely flowing at Harvard Jolly in the early 70’s.
