Located just outside the Orlando city limit, the neighborhood is very desireable for its proximity to the city's shopping, business, and restaurants. Isleworht traces its roots to the Chase family, a group of citrus farmers from Philadelphia who purchased land in the area after the Civil War. Sidney and Joshua Chase named the property "Isle of worth" because the cirtus seemed naturally resistant to cold snaps. In 1984 Arnold Palmer, bouth the land and developed and extra large golf course for wealthy members. In 1993 Tavistock Group purchased the golf course and surrounding area and began develplment. Many luxury homes to full on mansions were built.
Isleworth is home to a championship 18 hole golf course originally designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, later redesgned and modified by Steve Smyers. Late in 2007 the community became in the eye of Orange County official and nearby Windermere when the city announced plans to annex Isleworth. With property tax rolls totaling $800,000,000 per year, it genrated $350,000,000 in tax revenues for the county that the city was anxious to redirect to its own account. Orange County mayor rich Crotty quickly threatened to end county fire and sheriff servies to Isleworht if annexation plans went forward.
As of 2023 the current tax bill includes, State School, Local School, Gen County, County Fire, UTD, LIbrary, SFWM, and Wind Canal and Garage Wayste so it seems as though there is no city tax.
